The integration of Manual and Active Physiotherapy treatments and techniques:
Introducing Performance Physiotherapy.
The three foundational pillars of performance physiotherapy are derived from our clinic philosophy:
Manual Physiotherapy:
Manual physiotherapy is a clinical approach using specific hands-on techniques to diagnose and/or treat various soft tissue structures (e.g. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves etc) along with bony structures (e.g. bones, joints etc) for the purpose of:
- improving range of motion
- increasing mobility/stability
- reducing pain and discomfort
- decreasing swelling, inflammation,or edema
- improving tissue quality and suppleness
- assisting with tissue repair
- optimizing function
At Primal Human Performance, we practice various types of manual physiotherapy. These include specialized soft tissue, bone/joint and nerve treatments:
- soft tissue release/muscle mobilizations
- myofascial release techniques (MRT)
- joint mobilizations/glides
- joint traction
- neuromuscular techniques (e.g. muscle energy techniques)
- trigger point therapy
- medical acupuncture/acupressure
Active Physiotherapy:
Active physiotherapy is a progressive, individualized exercise-based approach toward physical fitness that improves the 5 S’s of performance, while also having the power to help rehabilitate injuries, reduce injury risk and improve health:
- Skill
- Suppleness
- Strength
- Speed
- Stamina
Active physiotherapy can include corrective or therapeutic exercise, strength and conditioning based exercises, and sports performance training (return to sport after injury, improving sports performance, etc). The majority of Active physiotherapy is done in our fully appointed High Performance Gym.
How do Manual and Active Physiotherapy work together?
The synergistic combination of targeted manual physiotherapy work, with specific, individualized active physiotherapy work, ensures that the client’s body is ready to safely engage in appropriate movements and progressive physical activity, which allows our client to successfully navigate through their injury rehab, fitness or sports performance goals.
